We are looking to import records using a text file in InMagic tagged format, which requires a space at the beginning of a wrapped text continuation line. I used to be able to set this up in Microsoft Word with a hanging indent, saving the file as TXT. However, Word 2003 (and even WordPad) now strips the leading space when it creates the TXT file.

Has anyone else encountered this problem with Word 2003 and figured out a work-around?

Are any of your field entries likely to exceed 65500 characters? The maximum permissible line length in Inmagic Tagged Format increased from 1024 to 65500 characters in version 5.2.

If only a few records will have field entries exceeding 65500 characters, you could import the file, then edit the few records in your exception file to add a few continuation lines.

When I had to do this recently, I used the Word Find/Replace feature on the exception file, to replace <period-space> with <period>^p<space>. (You can't see the spaces below.)

Find what: .
Replace with: .^p
