We have produced a number of report formats for the web which include the explode sort option for one or more fields. In each case, the report form works as expected in the back end application. When viewed in the web browser however, the records appear only once in the report and always under the heading corresponding to the first subfield value for the sort header field. It appears from this that the explode sort does not work in WebPublisher reports.

Can you advise if you have evidence that the explode sort does work when viewed in a web browser? If so, can you suggest what I may be doing wrong, given that the report format works correctly when viewed in DBTextWorks? What factors might disable this feature in the browser?

We use DBText/Works version 6.1 and Internet Explorer version 6.0.

Any sorting option which changes the number of records in the report (explosion, interfiling, and ignoring empties) is ignored on the Web.

I have added your name to the request to implement this functionality on the Web.

From the "WebPublisher: Form Design Tips" section of the DB/TextWorks help:

"Sorting. Sort order is determined by the textbase default sort order (Maintain>Edit Textbase Structure) or by the compulsory form sort (Form Designer>Report Options>Compulsory Sort). To allow users to sort records, create several reports, each sorted in a different way (Sort by Title, Sort by Date). Note that the following compulsory form sort options are ignored: Exploded Sort, Interfile, and Omit Records (Primary Sort Field Options)."

Support for exploded sorts in WebPublisher PRO was implemented in version 9.0.

To implement it, add the following option to the [WebPublisher] section of the DBTWPUB.INI file ([ICSWEB] and ICSWEB.INI for CS/WebPublisher PRO):

WebAllowExplode=1

When this option is set, any report that has an exploded sort will display all records on one page.

Note: If you don't have version 10, you'll need to restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service using the Services window after making this change in order for it to be recognized.

Support for interfiling fields on the Web is still not available.
