I have a validation list (authors list) which needs to be shared among several textbases. However, if I update the validation list (add an author) I need to update the validation lists on all the textbases that are using that validation list.

To workaround this issue, I created a secondary textbase with all the authors names, then, in the primary textbase, I linked the field called 'author' to that secondary textbase so that users can select the corresponding author. The problem is that only one author can be selected (by default, links field type only allows single entries - one author per record in my case, but my records can have many authors)

How can I set up a field (i.e "authors") where users can select several authors from a common centralized author textbase?

Have you thought about using a thesaurus instead? This can be shared across several textbases and can be browsed instead of a validation list when editing records or when searching. You can paste multiple values.

There is a sample thesaurus available in the \thes directory of your DB/TextWorks installation folder.

We often take this structure and add other fields to it so it becomes a useful database in it's own right, i.e. extra biographical information for a name thesaurus.

We tried but it did not work properly. We have version 7.0 DB/textworks. Do you know if the latest versions of Inmagic will allow me to share a textbase across several textbases?

How did the thesaurus "not work properly"? Using a thesaurus as a validation list is the only way to share a validation list across multiple textbases AND have multiple entries in the validated field.

And the Use Thesaurus as Validation List feature was available in DB/TextWorks v7.0.
