We're moving to a shiny new Windows Server 2003 network(AD, IIS, the whole 9 yards) from a Frankenstein setup where our program files are hosted on a peer-to-peer XP box, and the textbases are hosted on a Netware 4.1 file server (a holdover from an earlier upgrade--Netware 4.1 doesn't support long filenames). (A disclaimer--this was not my doing!). What is the best way to move my textbases (including some that are linked) to the new server? I should say I'm relatively new to DB/Textworks in general.
Many thanks, Bryan Martin Faculty of Music Library University of Toronto |

Ideally, your linked textbases are in the same folder. If that's the case, you simply need to copy all the textbase files (*.TBA, *.DBS, *.DBR, *.IXL, *.OCC, etc.) to the new machine.
If your primary textbase and secondary textbases are in different folders, you'll need to either:

Thanks. I think I have done that, but when I open the main textbase, I get error messages that the secondary textbases can't be opened. When I go to edit the Link Definitions, I correct the links, but get an error message that they are "incomplete", which I don't understand, because I can't see anything else I should be changing.

Here's the error message:
The secondary textbase "PRFRMRS" is not available because an error occurred opening a file. Continue? I haven't changed anything, just copied the textbases from the old server to the new one. |

Fixed it. There were 2 problems: some of the files in one of the secondary textbases were corrupt, although once I had good copies, I was still getting the error. I opened each secondary textbase and closed it before I opened the primary textbase. Everything was fine after that.
So, it looks like you must open your secondary textbases before you try to open your primary textbase after you transfer the files. Is this correct? Good weekend, all. |
