I have a number of duplicate entries that have variations on the same number as the supposedly unique identifying number.
Is it possible to 'lock' individual entries so that those which are redundant can remain in the database as part of the audit trail, but cannot be used except as 'read only', thus forcing future users to only input information into one 'officially sanctioned' entry. You can use Record Level Security to write-protect specific records based on a specific value in an Access Control field. See the "Specifying Record-Level Security" topic in the DB/TextWorks Help for more information. (I looked in the Help Index for "Restricting access to records".)
My tests indicate you can use #, $, and % as entries in the Validation List for the Access Control field. |

Thanks CD, this has been most helpful.
As you say, I found this in the strangely named 'help' file - why strangely named? Well it looks as if I need to learn another language to understand it Cheers, Rob |
