Hi,
One of my colleagues has a problem in Dbtext were when she clicks on a file link to a Word or PDF document, nothing happens. I had a hunch it might be a Word problem but the fact that it affects PDFs as well indicates not. This problem is isolated to her PC, nobody else has experienced the problem. We have done some testing of file links, and http and mail links in different textbases and the problem only occurs with file link in Dbtext, but is the same in any textbase. We have tested the same links from email (Outlook) and Word docs and they work OK in those programs so the problem appears to be with Dbtext. We are now on v11 but I believe the problem pre-exists the last upgrade. We have uninstalled and reinstalled DBtext on the problem PC with no effect. Now I'm stuck! any ideas? Sally |

Still stuck, but a recent antivirus software upgrade on a number of PCs running DBtext appears to have caused the same problem. So waiting for my IT team to look at what in the antivirus program may be blocking these links....
Will post a message if we find out the answer. |

Still stuck but now think the problem is with Word 2003 SP3. If we log on to a PC with Word 2003 SP2 the links work, but not on a PC with SP3. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Sally - I had the same problem last year and literally started with a clean computer with Windows XP-SP3, Office and DBTW loaded and then reloaded programs one by one. Turns out in my case it was a then new version of Avery's Thumper CD label making software. Removing it cleared up the problem. I so advised Inmagic so that fix should be in their knowlegebase. Grady

Thanks Grady,
Yes, its looking like starting again with a clean PC is the only way to go on this. We don't use the label making software you mention, but I'm betting there is some other piece of software (of which there are many) causing some kind of conflict. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience. Sally |
