we have a problem here in our library. I work in Barcelona, Spain, and the latest translated version of DB/Textworks is v9, so no luck in getting RSS implementation.

I used a template that was published here, and adapted it so I could make a RSS for our new acquisitions. Problem came when most readers do not accept the accents and tilde (á é, so on...), and, except for Firefox 3.0, they show strange behaviour: special characters disappear, or worse, from the special character on the text is deleted.

I found that the resulting output from the RSS file from the canned request showed only <?XML version = "1.0"?> in the headline, and no encoding was specified. So, only non-tilded registries appear completely.

I gave DBTWPUB.INI the parameter so that the XML output was ISO-8859-1, then tried UTF-8, with no luck at all. I also changed manually my XSL file to show output encoding, but the canned search keeps on bringing that header without the encoding parameter.

When I manually add the encoding parameter in the source code from the resulting xml file and save it, everything works fine on any feed reader.

I would really appreciate an answer to that problem. Is it a development problem?

This issue has been addressed in WebPublisher PRO version 11.0 (for the RSS feeds set up using Inmagic.net). When a Spanish version of WPP 11.0 is released later this year, it will have the same fix.

Note that a couple of other feed readers besides Firefox that do not manifest the problem are KlipFolio and FeedDemon. (The only feed reader I personally know of that does manifest the problem is Internet Explorer 7.0.)

Ok, then I suppose we will have to wait for that update.

Anyway, I have not found other feed reader than new Firefox 3.0 to fetch the data correctly.

Feedreader, FeedDemon and most of readers don't show the tilded character and next one, ie. Gestión -> Gestn

Firefox 2.X shows a question mark instead of the special character, ie. Gestión -> Gesti?n

KlipFolio won't show anything at all.

Internet Explorer reports code errors, precisely on the first line containing a special character.

We implemented v9 last year, at the time WPP 9 was translated and available in Spain, so it will be difficult to get an update soon. Do you know if there is any workaround to this problem?
