Hi,
Our server has died .. and I have only the .cba files backed up. Is there anyway to restore the database on a new server with just the .cba files? |

|
I also have the .cac, .cbs, .cub, log and ini files for the textbase
|

|
how did you perform the backup?
the cba files contain no database data, only the forms and connection information for mssql, if you did not backup the data using the administration tool, you will not be able to retrieve the data from the textbase files. Luke Stephenson |

.CAC Access control file; controls simultaneous access to the textbase by multiple users or software instances, or applications.
.CBA Primary textbase definition file, which also contains textbase elements (for example, forms, query screens, sets, record skeletons) stored in the textbase. .LOG Optional textbase log file; lists changes to records and the textbase structure. .INI Optional file used with Copy Special applications, Textbase-Specific Help, and the Applications menu. CUB is not a file extension for inmagic cs, not that i know of, perhaps it is a .CBB file? .CBB Contains all of the information on the Edit Textbase Structure dialog box and its subdialog boxes. It does not contain records or textbase elements. You can use the .CBB file to create a new, empty textbase by choosing File>New Textbase>Restore from Textbase Structure Backup File. This information is taken from the Inmagic Content Server Help File, and is Copyrighted. When you use Inmagic Content Server Administrator to create a backup, it creates a .DAT sql server file. Thank you for your reply,
sorry my mistake, it was a CBU file, not CUB. It turns out our network admin performed backups of the database, but using the mssql backup procedure and not the backup procedure available from the CS admin tool. If we use the mssql restore procedure onto our new server (which has cs/textworks and webpublisher installed) will this work ... or would there be problem since the .cba file may be expecting another server to connect to? |

Well that's good news!
Once the new server is setup(you will probably need to install cs on the server before you restore the data,) you can then "create the control database" and on your workstation(s) place the files in a directory, and try to open them. You may need to re-specify the sql instance cs is to use, using the administrator tool. Sorry i cannot provide details, it has been a few years since i have done what you are doing, but with some fiddling, you should be able to get the data back. Luke Stephenson |
