EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY SmileINMAGIC DATABASE MANAGER

Motion picture research and reference library is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented manager for its multiple Inmagic databases.

● DUTIES: Under the supervision of the library’s Information Systems Coordinator, the Inmagic Database Manager will develop data model describing database elements and how they are used; develop standards and guidelines for the use and maintenance of the Inmagic databases; modify existing databases to provide consistency of data elements across the system; train and provide support to users working in Inmagic and Voyager systems; assist users in the further development of Inmagic databases resources by creating and maintaining forms, reports, thesauri, menu and query screens; assist users with Java scripting and Web Publisher© functions; and design new or revise existing database structure to facilitate sharing of databases throughout the organization. Other responsibilities include using computers and computer systems (hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, or process information; observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources; identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts; keeping up-to-date technically; compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data.

● QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of computer software and Inmagic database applications. MLS with computer specialization preferred. Familiarity with MARC cataloging. Knowledge of film history and library/archive experience highly desirable. Knowledge of management principles involved in production methods and coordination of people and resources. Ability to work well with library/computer management and staff. Ability to analyze needs and product requirements to create a design. Ability to generate or adapt software and technology to serve user needs. Ability to communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience. Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
