We have several situations where we own multiple copies of the same item in multiple branches like the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. We issue about 80 copies of this to attorneys in Miami, 60 in NY, 12 in Tallahassee, etc. (We do not use a bar code system.)

We have decided to show this by putting 80 in the Number field on the Holdings screen for the MIA holding, 12 for the TAL holding, 60 for NY, etc. We really do not have the time or patience to create a separate Holding record for each copy of such items.

Is anyone else doing this? Any comments or ideas? Sometimes we cannot get the Number field to cooperate because it is trying to show the next number in a sequence instead of a quantity as we are using it.

Will look forward to your input.

One of the new features in BiblioTech PRO
v 2.2 is the Create Multiple Copies function that lets you easily create multiple Copy records for a CID. Besides setting the number of copies, you can indicate the beginning value for the Copy Number, Sequence Number, Part, Volume, and Year fields and increment them. You can also select values for Status, Use, Format, and Site information. As well, you can indicate a starting point for an Accession Number/Bar Code number and increment it.
