We have a detailed answer field in our library reference question database. It is a mix of text describing the steps taken to answer a question and a variety of hyperlinks that were used. I have set the field to display the field as "do not alter" but the hyperlinks are not active of course. We have to copy and paste the text to the browser address bar.
Is there a way to design Webpublisher to recognize hyperlinks in text fields the same way for example, Microsoft Word will recognize a hyperlink and automatically underline it and change the font to blue? I would like to make a wishlist request that the option "do not alter" under "Treat content item as" be able to recognize hyperlinks in text and display them as such. I realize you can create fields that recognize URLS, email links and html file references but it would be nice to have one choice that can do it all. It is not really feasible in my example above to separate data into two or more fields just to see the links as it would break up the flow of the answer. Just a thought. If the information is only for displaying on the web, you could modify the text of the field contents to put:
<a href="url">url</a> In the field instead of just: url Then treat that content item as Raw HTML. Then the URL will display as a hypertext link. I have added your name to the wishlist item that WebPublisher be able to detect URLs in a body of text as DB/TextWorks does. |

Thanks Lisa - I am aware that writing html and treating the text as raw text would do the trick. However, I am not sure the people doing the data entry would want to hand code everything, including adding <br> tags for carriage returns. Thank you for adding my wishlist item. I think it would be useful in a lot applications, including our library catalogue where we include links to URLs that we want to include descriptions of the links.

Please add my name to the wish list for this feature as well! It's very frustrating to have to do all the HTML hand-coding in the data just to get it to work on the web.

This is becoming an extremely important issue for our online catalogue.
Especially for 530 (Additional Physical Form) and 856 (Electronic Location) fields. I have trawled the Internet to find a javascript solution and have found nothing. Add me to the wishlist and raise the priority! I'd like to add a "Me, too!"
If you want an active URL in a field with other text, not only do you have to add the HTML coding, but it messes with your font settings (for that particular field) when you view the results with WebPublisher.
